Therapy - Wellness - Coaching

Life doesn’t always go as planned, and we often need help and guidance navigating turbulent waters or unexpected bumps in the road.

I am an experienced Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who has been working with children, adolescents, and young adults since 1994. A graduate of Mount Holyoke College and New York University School of Social Work, I have spent 25 years as a school counselor in Connecticut. I work with all genders, sexualities, races, and beliefs.

As a therapist, I employ an eclectic approach; since every person and situation is unique, it is essential to tailor the approach to each person’s individual needs. Trained in psychodynamic therapy, I seek to aid clients in understanding what motivates their behavior by increasing the clients self-awareness in relation to their experiences. I believe that the most important aspect of treatment is to create a relationship in which the client can feel understood in a non-judgmental, safe, compassionate, and supportive environment. Then, we will work collaboratively toward a resolution, potentially employing strategies such as supportive therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and mindfulness. I believe that listening, hearing, and understanding each individual’s concerns and struggles is paramount, both in initial sessions and as the work together progresses.

I have a particular interest and ample expertise in working with students and young adults with ADHD and the often-accompanying issues of executive functioning, anxiety, and depression. I also have significant experience working with many different presentations of anxiety and depression. As a parent of one college-age student and one post-college young adult, in addition to working with young adults, I have a multifaceted and extensive understanding of the issues students and young adults face in today’s world.

I am eager to see my clients improve, expand their comfort zone, feel more motivated, and shed burdens so they can move forward positively.

Anxiety

Everyone worries, but when that worry transcends into anxiety it can be problematic. Anxiety can take many forms including social anxiety, which we have seen increase exponentially in our youth and young adults in recent years.

Depression

Having an impact on how we think, feel, and act, depression can have an impact on every area of life. Depression can be felt both emotionally and physically.

ADHD & Executive Function

Living with the challenges and inconsistencies inherent in ADHD can be difficult and makes everyday tasks in life harder. Understanding one’s strengths and weaknesses and developing ways to support and cope with challenges can make life a little easier.
